The goal of the Let’s develop assessment together! project is to increase equality in basic education assessment, its criteria and related dialogue. Let’s develop assessment together! is the KAARO network’s project that produces, in cooperation with various experts, free research-based materials for basic education assessment. We invite teachers, principals, teaching experts, schools and municipalities to participate in joint development! We provide assessment teams and tutors with in-service teacher training and national online courses free of charge. You can also participate with a colleague! The training calendar and the material bank can be found on the KAARO network’s website.

LET'S DEVELOP ASSESSMENT TOGETHER!

Project background:

In 2018, the Finnish National Agency for Education began its work to strengthen the equity of assessment in basic education.

This includes defining more detailed criteria for final assessment and clarifying the principles of assessment in the curriculum.

The central goal of these reforms is to increase the equity between students in assessment. The KAARO network participates in the implementation of the reforms with its Let’s develop assessment together! project.

In the video, Counsellor of Education Erja Vitikka describes the work being done to strengthen the equity of assessment in basic education.

The Let’s develop assessment together! project is designed to support the national implementation of the new assessment chapter and assessment criteria in the National Core Curriculum for Basic Education. The project involves training assessment teams and creating materials and models to support the development of assessment culture in schools and municipalities.

The KAARO network is working together with many different parties to carry out the project.

We work together with municipalities to construct models for developing assessment practices either across the municipality or in specific schools that the municipality has chosen. We support municipalities in developing their assessment practices through shared free materials and a variety of operational models. The municipalities in our network are committed to organising joint assessment evenings for schools,

and they support schools in developing their assessment practices.

Assessment teams support the development of assessment practices in their own schools. The trained teams will help everyone in the work community to participate in developing the practices. We train and offer materials and models for assessment teams so that team members can offer their colleagues the best possible support. The schools in the school network develop their assessment practices. Appointed assessment team supports development of these practices.
