KAARO Helsinki builds the research-based assessment literacy of teacher trainers, teacher students and in-service teachers. Assessment literacy is developed comprehensively as part of the pedagogical studies in teacher education and as part of continuing education to ensure the lifelong learning of teachers. The project engages in close cooperation with different degree programmes, teacher training schools and field schools as well as devises cooperation models for joint development. KAARO Helsinki enables the joint development of assessment literacy and helps the participants share and distribute practices, generate new ideas and develop assessment to support the concept of learning expressed in the new core curriculum.
The members of the KAARO Helsinki working group are involved in developing assessment education and continuing education. KAARO Helsinki collects research information and supports the development of research-based assessment literacy at the University of Helsinki. The use of assessment to support learning strategies and learning to learn is one part of its activities.

KAARO Helsinki working group
The KAARO Helsinki working group comprises researchers and teacher trainers from the University of Helsinki Centre for Educational Assessment, different degree programmes of the Faculty of Educational Sciences, teacher training schools, field schools and the Centre for University Teaching and Learning, as well as teacher students interested in the development of assessment literacy and research in the field. The KAARO Helsinki working group brings together the assessment education provided at the University of Helsinki’s Faculty of Educational Sciences as well as develops, harmonises and opens up the practices within the Faculty. It is also strongly involved in the joint development work carried out by the KAARO network.
